Kovalam lighthouse on a green headland above the turquoise Arabian Sea, Kerala

Kovalam · Kerala, India

Kovalam

Kerala’s most beloved beach

About Kovalam

Three crescents of golden sand strung along the Arabian Sea, Kovalam has drawn travellers since it became a hippie haven in the 1970s. The southernmost, Lighthouse Beach, watched over by a candy-striped lighthouse, is the liveliest, fringed with seafood shacks and Ayurvedic spas.

Just 16 kilometres from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam pairs easy access with genuine charm: shallow, swimmable bays, catamaran fishermen hauling their nets at dawn, and some of the finest Ayurveda and yoga retreats in India.
