Munnar
Kerala’s tea country in the clouds
About Munnar
Perched at 1,600 metres in the Western Ghats, Munnar is a sea of rolling tea gardens that the British carved out of the high ranges in the 19th century. Mist rolls over the contoured slopes at dawn, and the air carries the cool, green scent of the plantations.
Beyond the tea, Munnar is a gateway to some of South India's most pristine wilderness, shola forests, tumbling waterfalls and the elusive Nilgiri tahr. Once every twelve years the hills turn violet-blue as the rare Neelakurinji flower blooms in unison.
